The Virtual Mass Spectrometry Laboratory (VMSL) is an interactive, Interneteducational tool currently under development through a grant awarded in 1999 from the National Science Foundation (DUE-9950867). The VMSL is a mechanism to teach those interested in mass spectrometry about this powerful analytical technique by using state-of-the-art Internet approaches. Once operational, the VMSL will allow students to operate several virtual mass spectrometers to solve real case studies such as determining if a sample of vanilla flavoring is counterfeit or authentic, identifying unknown proteins, or diagnosing H. pylori infections. We welcome your comments or suggestions.
