Meeting Attendees: Mark Bier – CMU, Joe Grabowski – Pitt, Christina Jasieczek – PPG, Ken Rosnack – In-Situ, Manny Schreiber – Pitt, Ed Sheehan – Chem Space Assoc., Kasi Somayajula – Pitt

Meeting Location: Star of India Restaurant – Oakland

The PMSDG Committee met for the first time in the 1999-2000 season. The purpose of the meeting was to select officers and to brainstorm ideas for the year.

Ed Sheehan volunteered to update/upkeep the PMSDG database.

Manny Schreiber volunteered as Secretary.

Christina Jasieczek volunteered as Treasurer.

Joe Grabowski volunteered to continue to develop the Web Page for the group.

A Chair-Elect has not been established.

The group decided that a Manufacturer’s Night (previously held 1.5 yrs ago) would kick off the year in November. It was recommended that we pick a date prior to Thanksgiving. Attendance may drop off between Thanksgiving & Christmas holidays. It was also decided that the Manufacturer’s Night take the form of a Social followed by dinner and then a prominent speaker. Several suggestions were made for the speaker – Mike Ramsey from Oakridge Labs (Mark Bier would contact), ASMS Distinguished Awardee from NASA JPL Mars Project (Christina would handle), and Leroy Hood. It was decided that Mike Ramsey would be give 1^st choice followed by the person at NASA. Manufacturer’s Night would begin at 5:30PM with a Social, Dinner at 7:00, Seminar at 8:00 PM.

The committee decided that we should continue with a one-day short-course and two _ day courses/seminars.

Joe Grabowski suggested the topic of MS in Breath Analysis (Electronic Nose). Joe Benga at PPG may know appropriate speakers for this seminar. Joe G. will contact Joe B.

Ken will check with Gerry Churley at the SSP for conflicts with the Mfg Night. The committee suggested Nov 16 or 17. Ken will also check with Venders for any conflicts.

Ken will email to Manny the last PMSDG Inorganic Flyer, etc for his records. Ken will also Email to Ed the Excel file of the PMSDG mailing list. We are trying to get email addresses for members of the PMSDG in order to save paper mailing costs. Ken will also email to Joe G. the PMSDG committee list for inclusion on the Web site.

Mark Bier & Ed Sheehan suggested that Ken contact the ASMS president & promote Pittsburgh as a site for the conference (probably 5 yrs. down the line). Ken will contact the City of Pittsburgh Promotions Bureau to get pamphlets, information, etc. to send to ASMS.

The Next meeting of the PMSDG committee will be Thursday October 28, 1999 at the Star of India Restaurant.
