TO: PMSDG Committee
FROM: Ken Rosnack
SUBJECT: Minutes from Committee Meeting on Friday December 10, 1999
ATTENDEES: Mark Bier CMU, Fu-Tyan Lin Pitt, Joe Grabowski Pitt, Ken Rosnack In-Situ
We finalized plans for the Feb 23, 2000 meeting that will be cosponsored with the Western PA Conservancy. Ken is in the process of contacting speakers for the MS portion of the talk. Primary contact is Deborah Swackhamer at the Univ. of Minnesota. She works with aquatic life in the Great Lakes region. Alternate speakers include Wayne Carmichael at Wright State Univ., Doug Kuehl at USEPA, or Ron Hites.
A suggestion for the May 16th 2000 manufacturers night from Joe Grabowski was Dr. Larry Bowers from Indiana University Drug Analysis Lab for Athletic Drug Testing & Toxicology. Dr. Bowers was involved in the Winter Olympic Testing. Ken will contact Dr. Bowers as well as Tony Ziberna of ThermoQuest Corporation. Tony is the magnetic sector contact who was involved in the Olympic Testing in Atlanta.
Suggestions for the Sept 21st 2000 meeting on Proteomics & Genomics were, Dan Kassel from Combichem Inc., John Staltz from Genantech, Pierre Thibault from the NRC, and Don Hunt from UVA. This will be an all day short course where 2-3 speakers split the discussions. We decided to give honorariums for these speakers (not to exceed $500 total per SSP).
Ken suggested Dr. Paul Vourous from Northeastern Univ. in Boston for the Feb 2001 CZE/MS workshop (1/2 day). Ken will contact Paul & others.
Suggestions for the May 2001 topic included Diagnosis of Disease, CMU Robotics, and Electronic Nose. Joe indicated that there are a few companies in California & England that he will check into. Ken suggested International Flavors & Fragrances and another Electronic Nose Company in NJ.
The web site for the PMSDG is currently on the CMU server. Joe Grabowski, webmaster, will update the site with the above information.
Resa Brna indicated several errors on the Web site & changes have been made accordingly.
The PMSDG committee listed by the SSP has several discrepancies with the current members or PMSDG. Dave Lineman has moved from the area to Erie PA, Jack Sharkey has retired, and Robert Vislosky has become inactive. We will keep the names on the Committee roster per Resas suggestion.
Mark Bier indicated that he emailed the PMSDG web page address to the SSP webmaster so that it can be included on the SSP web page.
Ken will email Ross Willoughby & Ed Sheehan to join the SSP. Resa indicated that PMSDG committee members must be SSP members.
Respectfully Submitted, Ken Rosnack
